Wednesday 18 November 2015 was European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD), a day when people all over Europe were made aware of the problem of antibiotic resistance through a public health campaign. ANTRUK decided that this day, which is held on the 18 November every year, would be a great day to have a national fundraising event. Rather than simply ask people for money we asked that people host a fund raising activity which we named the Great British Tea Party. There was an enthusiastic response to this suggestion and some 250 fundraising packs were sent all around the UK. The packs contained information about ANTRUK, flyers, donation envelopes and a prepared statement to be read out by the Tea Party organiser about antibiotic resistance and how ANTRUK is trying to tackle the problem.
This year we are holding the second Great British Tea Party on Friday 18 November 2016 and we are planning for the event to be bigger and better than that in 2015. One of the Tea Party’s will be held at Bishopthorpe Palace, home of our Patron, the Archbishop of York.
We are looking for volunteers to help organise our 2016 Great British Tea Party. If you can help please contact info@antibioticresearch.org.uk
