Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, becomes Antibiotic Research UK Patron

Alison Staples ANTRUK announcements

We are pleased to reveal during the 2021 WHO’s World Antimicrobial Awareness Week that the 98th Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell has agreed to become Patron of Antibiotic Research UK. He follows on the patronship from his predecessor Dr John Sentamu. Our charity has had strong York and North Yorkshire involvement since the charity’s creation in 2014. We know how important it is to get the community involved with our work. Our team work tirelessly to raise awareness of the global health crisis and show individuals how they can help.

Archbishop of York “The continuing issue of antibiotic resistance affects large numbers of people across the globe and not least here in the United Kingdom. A resistant infection can strike anyone at any time, causing serious illness and sadly sometimes death. I am proud to support Antibiotic Research UK with its vision of a world free from drug-resistant infections. The current COVID pandemic has highlighted our lack of preparedness for a devastating infectious disease and the importance of doing all we can to limit antibiotic resistance in the future. This comes with my very best wishes.”

Stephen Cottrell, Archbishop of York

We look forward to the Archbishop helping us in our vision to see a world free from drug-resistant infections.
