York Professor helps set up charity to stop Antibiotic resistant superbug catastrophe
The overuse of antibiotics is leading to an increase in drug resistant strains of diseases like TB and malaria. But there is a warning now that unless there is urgent action we may see the end of operations like organ transplants, cancer treatments, knee and hip replacements – an ultimately even a grazed knee could prove fatal.Now a new charity, Antibiotic Research UK, has been set up by a former York University professor to try to develop new effective drugs.
