Just a few weeks to go until the York Dragon Boat Challenge on 10 July 2022. Taking place on the River Ouse and organised by York Rotary, this annual event has raised over £1 million for charity. This year Antibiotic Research UK are one of just two charities receiving support from York Rotary.
The charity is highly delighted that PAVERS of York, the major shoe retailer has agreed to both sponsor a Dragon Boat for us and provide 21 rowers for the event. The crew who have named themselves PAVE…OARS are getting themselves ready for the big day. We wish them luck! Most importantly an ENTHUSE fundraising page has been set up so everyone can support the PAVE…OARS team.
PAVE…OARS have set themselves a fundraising target of £3,000. Lets help them to achieve an OARSOME result by smashing this sum. In addition to monies raised by Pave…OARS, our charity will benefit from one third of the total monies raised for this event. This will contribute towards our vision of a world free from drug-resistant infections.
I was at a briefing event for the Dragon Boat Challenge on Tuesday 10 May and made a short presentation to over 50 people who attended. I asked the audience how many people had ever been prescribed antibiotics and almost all raised their hands. This emphasises just how important it is to keep our current antibiotics working and why supporting our charity is so important.
