Each year an estimated 12,000 people die in the UK from antibiotic resistant infections. That’s someone every 45 minutes!
We need to keep our antibiotics working so that they are there for when we really need them. This year, Antibiotic Research UK is taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge to raise money to beat the superbugs through research, education and patient support.
This means that between midday 3rd – 10th December 2019, any donations you make through the Big Give website will be doubled!

It’s the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign. For seven days, it offers individual supporters of participating charities the opportunity to have their donation doubled.
One donation, twice the impact
It’s easy to see how your donation could help change lives. For every pound you donate (up to a maximum of £5,000), with the Big Give Christmas Challenge it will have double the impact!
- Just five pounds is enough to buy 50 petri dishes; vital equipment when testing new treatments.
- For £50, we can print enough leaflets to educate 1,000 patients in GP waiting rooms or buy 125 test sensitivity discs that are used in hospital labs to test new treatment options against the bacteria from patient samples.
- £250 could fund a whole day of our Patient Support programme, helping people affected by antibiotic resistance.
- A £5,000 donation could be used to fund a small research grant for one year, helping breathe new life into academic research projects across the UK.
