ANTRUK Chair Ashley Burgess awarded OBE in New Year’s Honours

We are delighted to announce that our chairman, Ashley Burgess, has been awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list. The award was made for his services to charity, the RNLI and Business. Ashley is a well known Yorkshire businessman and has been the chair of our charity since its formation in 2014. He has made a number of substantial philanthropic donations to charities and not least to ourselves. Ashley is a non-scientist but understands all too well the importance of tackling antibiotic resistance. Having undergone multiple surgical procedures for joint replacements, he understands that effective antibiotics are so important. Ashley commented ‘I am honoured to receive an OBE and that my work for charities including Antibiotic Research UK has been recognised. I am passionate that we need to keep our current antibiotics working for longer and that we need to be finding new ones. My work with ANTRUK is an essential way of engaging with patients, the public and professionals. I will continue to work tirelessly in any way I can to assist the charity meet is goals of research, education and patient support. Professor Colin Garner, the charity’s Chief Executive commented ‘Ashley’s award is so well deserved – he has supported myself and the charity since our formation and his ability to raise large sums of money from his network has meant that we have been able to hit the ground running’.
