Emmanuel tell us a bit about yourself?
I am 26 years old MSc Bioinformatics student at Birkbeck University in London, from SE London who has a passion for making a positive contribution in the life of others through utilising the skillsets I have acquired along the way. Working as a Bank Healthcare Assistant at Greenwich and Lewisham NHS Trust has increased my awareness of how important antibiotic research is when it comes to restoring/improving the quality of each patients’ lifestyle.
Why did you sign up for the Antibiotic Research internship?
I entered the Antibiotic Research internship because I wanted to utilise my researching skills to raise awareness for individuals with antibiotics resistant infections, as well as providing an improvement towards their wellbeing. Working as a Healthcare Assistant for the NHS has deepened my understanding of how vital Antibiotic Research is and has allowed me to build upon my interpersonal skills to learn how to discuss sensitive issues with patients.
What do you think the placement will offer you?
Obtaining this Antibiotic Research UK placement role, supported by Santander, gives me the opportunity to act upon the passion I have to use science as a tool to enhance the quality of life for others.
What line of work do you hope to go into?
I want to get into some sort of research field in the future, but mainly using bioinformatic analysis tools to identify specific genes that are responsible for specific diseases.
What are your other interests?
I am a very passionate Manchester United fan (in Ten Haag we Trust, lol) who also plays 7-a-side football for a team called Fraud FC. I recently started reading, currently reading the fifth book titled “CrossFire” in the Noughts and Crosses Series by Malorie Blackman. Enjoy listening to music, and watching either a movie or TV series in my spare time. One of my go-to TV series is My Wife and Kids, Fresh Prince of Bel Air or Everybody Hates Chris.
