Running events finally back on track

Antibiotic Research UK is thrilled to announce that charity running events are returning in the summer of 2021.

Running events – charity places

Our running-enthusiast supporters can put their best foot forward at the Virgin Money London Marathon and the Vitality Big Half. We have a limited number of charity places for these events, so register your interest quickly if you want to take part.

If you have your eye on another event that you would like to run for us, get in touch with us for fundraising support and an Antibiotic Research UK running vest or t-shirt, or just to tell us that you’re going to take part.

Kellie Archer is one of our previous runners (prior to the pandemic). She told us: “I ran for Antibiotic Research UK to raise awareness of a charity that’s close to my heart. As a hospital scientist, we are seeing more resistance in bacteria. Charities such as this will need more and more support going forward.”

Claire Nethersole, Regional Fundraiser for Antibiotic Research UK, is equally as pleased. “We are delighted! We know our running enthusiasts have really missed the opportunity to take part in events. There really is nothing like the race-day atmosphere! As a charity, we have sorely missed the donations raised by these events over the past year. Our runners may have taken a (reluctant) break, but antibiotic resistance is more of an issue than ever before.”

Running events with a virtual twist

Lockdown restrictions have led to many innovative new running challenges in the past year. From solo challenges to virtual team events, charity supporters have had to get inventive in order to continue to fundraise. We look forward to continuing to support people who wish to take part in this type of challenge, too.

While the Virtual Virgin Money London Marathon has sold out, we have a limited number of places left for other charity running events, which you can apply for through our website.

Why we run

With 700,000 people dying of antibiotic-resistant infections every year, every penny raised will be put to good use as we fund research into new antibiotic therapies and provide support to people who have been affected by resistant infections.

Whichever event you wish to take part in – thank you. Your fundraising is what keeps our work alive. Find out more about fundraising through sporting events, or sign up for our newsletter to ensure you’re kept up to date.
